With prices for regular gas nearing $3 a gallon nationwide, drivers are looking for ways to save money. But instead of driving around for the cheapest gas station, simple maintenance and improving your driving can be the best way to save fuel.
Drivers should get their vehicles checked out now before the severe weather of winter approaches for safety and fuel economy reasons. With properly inflated tires and clean air filters, drivers can save up to $500 a year, according to the Environmental Protection Agency.
How you drive also affects fuel economy. Aggressive breaking and accelerating uses extra fuel. Accelerating and decelerating gently, along with using cruise control, can save drivers fuel. And contrary to popular belief, premium gas will not improve your gas mileage – so stick with regular gas for the cheapest fuel economy.
