Mercury Removal Talk, Gene Decker, Part 2
Part 2 of the “Mercury Removal Talk” by spokesperson, Gene Decker, discusses more information about the new construction at the Wyodak Plant, near Gillette, Wyoming. This 2nd video segment begins with statistics of the Wyodak's WyGen II Power Plant Hg Emissions.
The following information outlines the slides in the Powerpoint covered in Part 2 Video presentation of Decker's "Mercury Removal Talk."
WyGen II - Power Plant Hg Emissions
I. Is a 105 MW Plant – 0,24 ppm PRB coal Hg or ~ 3 pounds per day
20 ppm Coal Chlorides
SCR + SDA + PJFF
II. Schematic of the way the Plant is laid out
A. All sections described, including Sulpher Dioxide removal chambeR
B. Bag house – which vibrates the filters with air – for cleaning the air
III. WyGen II - Mercury Control Project – schematic
A. How the inside works
B. Balanced properly – is relatively clean & dry solvents
C. Bag House view from the outside slides
IV. WyGen II - Power Plant Hg Emissions
V. Stack Emissions Limit of 0.097 lb/GwHr
A. BACT target 0.020 lb/GwHr was required by the State of Wyoming for testing purposes
B. Stack Hg emissions of 0.24 lb/day
C. 50% of coal Hg exists in the Stack if left untreated as a gas
Native removal is due to absorption of the Hg on unburned or partially burned coal particles and due to the partial oxidation during the coal combustion process.
Key Points For Hg Removal
A. The form of mercury in the flue gas is critical to performance of emissions control systems.
1. Particulate vs Vapor
2. Elemental Mercury – Hgº
3. Oxidized or ionic mercury – Hg++
4. Coal Chlorides Play an Important Part
B. Diagram showed – ICR Test Data – SDA Total Mercury Control
C. Pictures of Solution Storage and Delivery Equipment
D. Picture of Boiler Chemical Additive Skid
E. Picture of Solution Injection Equipment
F. Schematic – For DFGD Mercury Control
G. WyGen II Powdered Activated Carbon Addition Equipment Injector Skid
1. Is currently a test facility
2. Monitored for measuring statistics & other data
H. Picture of Dry Sorbent Injection Skid
VI. Picture of WyGen II - Powdered Activated Carbon Additional Equipment
VII. Flue Work Injectors
Decker further discussed the functions of the Bag House. Then slide pictures of the PAC Silo for WyGen II were shown on a special 18-wheeler flat bed being delivered for installation, and PAC MCC's for WyGen II (all the new motors and blower systems) delivered and being off-loaded.
The rest of this segment discusses the Cost of Hg Control. Based on hours of operation, the cost is in the $65 - $75 per hour range. Cost per year is in the range of $800,000 - $1,000,000.
The balance of the last 2 minutes of this video segment #2, Decker discusses the Parametric Sorbent Performance Summary, and the Parametric Sorbent/C12 Performance Summary, and then led into the slides that begin video segment 3 of the Mercury CEMS.
